Since its founding in 2017 and operating on its own, the WG has benefited from modest funding from the Longview Foundation to the American Academy in order to build a model website anticipating the Guide itself. In 2020, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded an officer’s grant to American Councils on behalf of the WG to build, populate and pilot the current Guide.
The WG seeks further support to continue populating the Guide and to use its content as evidence for a strategic blueprint for the future. The intent of this groundwork is to encourage systemic change and evidence-based support of language education to advance access and excellence in language education across the United States.
In addition, this initiative is supported by WG members and ALFs, who volunteer their time to plan, design and implement the Guide as well as the broader America’s Languages Initiative. In addition, American Councils for International Education and the Joint National Committee for Languages have made generous in-kind contributions to support the Guide project.
